Love God, Love People? Prove IT!

Tonight I received an e-mail from the organization that we partner with to reach Kenya.  This is the the e-mail in a nutshell. Here the  deal…  The reality is that the drought in Kenya is bad.  If it doesn’t rain in October (short rainy season), things will get much worse very quickly.  The lack of rain has put a real strain on the water and food situation.
Kandaria (the village we sponsor)  is being hit hard by the lack of rains as well and the Leadership Council has asked us to do what we can to expedite the child sponsorships for Akado and Segoti primary schools so that they can begin a 5-day per week feeding program.  Because water will be provided by the water project, the schools can offer a feeding program that will allow the kids to get one meal each day during the week.  That currently is not the case for many for the children.

The bottom line…  we have 61 sponsorships available for both schools in Kandaria but we only have 15 sponsors.  We need 46 more.  The total kids impacted from those 61 sponsorships will be 617.

So s I read that e-mail I pulled out the above photo of the children gathering at one of the villages that I visited waiting for their weekly ration of water. I thought for sure this photo was going to make me cry but instead it made me really mad. How is this happening right now? How is that most of us walk around and go about our daily life completely unaffected and unaware. How could I so quickly forget about these children.

My hopes are that I can use my voice within my circle of influence to rally Christ Followers to make a difference. I am tired of hearing the vision statement of Love God, Love People. I think we need to change it to read Love God, Love People,Prove It!
